Hi,

Been off Genes for a while, so just getting back into doing some more researching.

I'm interested in finding out some more about my ancestor Frederick Hamilton Constable who was an actor in the 1900's or so. I've scoured the net and found a few bits and pieces (such as the names of some plays he was in etc) and some very fabulous people on here even found me a playbill or two. However, I'm really interested to see if I can find out more. Does anybody have any ideas about other places I could try? Maybe somewhere I could visit. Or even better, someone who has an interest in theatres around that time and might be more knowledgeable?

Any help or idea welcome!

His details, just in case anybody wants them are Frederick Hamilton Constable born 23 sept 1869 inNorton Yorkshire. He died in 1948 inHarrow, London. Married in 1890in Durham to a Rose Lloyd (an actress).

Thanks so much.

Thanks Dee. That's fab! I shall definitely check it out.

I know he moved around the country a huge amount and was in theatres all over the place. Does anyone know of any other newpaper archives online?

Thanks so much!

Here's his marriage to Rose. So who is Ivy on the 1901 census?

Marriages Jun 1890 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Constable Frederick Hamilton S. Shields 10a 1089
LLOYD Rose S. Shields 10a 1089

In 1891 Fred and Rose are boarders in Gateshead, Durham. He's an actor, 22, born Malton, Yorks, she's an actress, 31, born Scarboro, Yorks.
So Ivy is definitely a different wife, different age and birthplace.

Thanks so much Margaret, but I do already have his marriage info (with Rose) and census etc. I have come to the conclusion that Ivy is a second wife, as Rose had died, But I haven't yet found that marriage,

THanks Mary, but I know all about Fred Brittain Constable, as he is my great grandfather. It's more going back from Frederick Hamilton and info about his career I'm after.

But I appreciate the help.

Thanks to your help I have managed to track down the Ivy of the 1901 census! Her name (stage name at least) is Ivy Chandros, and she is definitely a second wife!

Only thing is, I can't seem to find a birth, marriage or death for her. I'm assuming that Chandros may be a stage name - and so possibly not her birth name. Luvvies eh?!?!
