I am a Parish Councillor and a few weeks ago our chairman gave me a letter, written in French, from a lady who was asking for help. He knew that I would be able to get my teeth into this research, and then my headache began....

One of our councillors speaks French, so he translated the letter for me. This is the gist of the letter....

Her relative was born in my village in 1837, and she gave me a name, Priscilla. This rellie arrived in France in the early 1870s with her son, and I had the sons name.....that is all...

I did some preliminary research and found the rellie in the 1841 and 1851 census...then lost her. I checked on GR search records and found a lovely lady, June, who also had this person in her tree. I made contact and told her the story of the French lady, (who I think is quite elderly) I was given some very usefull info which allowed me to continue my research, and to crown it all, June is sending me a copy of the marriage certificate of a sister of Priscilla`s, where Priscilla was witness.

I am having my research translated into French before it is sent and also a photo of the church where Priscilla was baptised. Gathering info for someone else is so very rewarding, but with out the help of June and other people on this site, I would have struggled.
