A few other reasons why a child may not have been born after 2 years:
There were problems with the birth of the previous child
The father may have left the area to look for work
The mother may have breast fed the child for longer than the 2 previous children. (maybe a 'sickly' child)
Breast feeding can delay fertility.
I have 2 children - (both were perfectly healthy as babies)and, after the first used no contraception other than breastfeeding. They are 2 and a half years apart.

The Reason i am looking for this possibilty is John born 1840 cant be found anywhere if there is a child born who died i will then know where the family were living prior to Johns birth in 1840

Thanks

Allan,

If you are a completist then you should consult parish registers for contiguous parishes. You should also consult them for possible births that predate the marriage too.

Alln, all I can suggest is to check Familysearch and Freebmd for births/deaths with same name. I would check deaths first then see if there is a corresponding birth. Not sure if it's worth the trouble myself!

Allan,

I suppose there are several possibilities here:

No children conceived or born;

Still-births, and therefore not recorded;

Births not recorded;

Baptisms not recorded;

Baptisms in a different parish register but not yet recognised;

Children born and recorded but not at home on census night.

There may be other reasons.

Peter

Hello all
I wonder if someone can help on this,
John Robson and Eleanor Urwin were married Lamesley in November 1826. there children as follows
Robert Born 1827 Newcastle
Jane born 1829 Newcastle
Mary Ann born Norton 1831
Elizabeth born 1833 Norton
Douglas 1835 Newcastle
John born 1840 possible Hetton-Le- Hole
Margaret born 1841 Hetton
Armstrong born 1843 hetton
Richard born 1846 Hetton
so there is child every 2 years except between 1835 and 1840, was there a child born who died during that period?
Maybe someone can help.
Thanks
Allan
