Having helped many people on this site and I like many others get the odd" Request to view your tree" message.

Today I was sent a pm asking why I had sent the same request??

I know I did'nt send it and the message I did send about Freebmd has not been opened....strange

Has anyone else had this?

Hi Jax,

Like yourself I often receive requests to view my tree from completely unrelated people who I have tried to assist by adding a post to their thread. I think that apart from them thinking that I may be related they get confused and press the tree request button which appears towards the top of every private message received.

I must confess however that I have never been asked why I have asked to see someone else's tree when I know that I have not sent them any such request. It is probably just another of the gremlins that seem to lurk about on this site.

I should not worry to much about it. It will probably never happen again. (Famous last words)

As you say it will probably never happen again, but how many of these requests we get have not been sent by the poster that they know of?

I wont lose any sleep over it lol

I dont think you understood my post Tania

What I am saying is Someone recieved a request from me, that as far as I am aware I did not send.

I have no interest in this persons family and I know we are not related in any way.

I sent her some recent marriage details by pm and for some stange reason a request to view your tree was recieved from me also

Surely if you send a request to view someones tree the message will appear in your sent messages, so it is quite easy to check. The other person will have a matching request in their In Box

I did a bit of research on this sort of thing a year ago or so and it transpired that certain people were reacting to Hot Matches, thinking that these were personal requests from other members to look at their tree.

The only sent messages to this person I sent were marriage details that were quite recent followed by a comment about freebmd.

I know I did not request to view her tree but she obviously recieved one??

Tell GR about it, jax - maybe it is something that needs referring to the technical team who seem to have had a lot of technical issues to deal with lately.

waiting for a reply from my pm, maybe she got confused lol

Thing was I would have thought if I had sent this request the title of the reply from her would have been

re Request to view your Tree?

I know my ones do that I send back

Its no big deal really I just wondered if it had happened to anyone else

Hi Jax,

Yes the same thing has happened to me.

Whenever I send a message I always begin by giving information on the relevant ancestor and then ask if we have a connection. I never ask if I can view their tree.

A few weeks ago I went through my sent messages and came across some which were purely asking to view their tree. I know for certain I never sent those messages. When I checked my threads, I noticed that I have answered a thread relating to those particular memebers. As I knew I hadn't sent the messages, I presumed that there must have been a glitch on GR. I have also received similar messages from members. What was strange was that on both the sent and received messages, there was no ancestors name in the Re: box.

What I find strange is the person who said I sent this request to view your tree message has not opened the message I did actually send yesterday
