I can't find her in 1891 either- i wondered if she may have been doing her nursing job - or even perhaps visiting her sons in Canada but perhaps she was getting quite old for that journry. Thank you for your replies so far - it does seem alot of money to suddenly come into !

if she was a nurse maybe she looked after/helped an elderly neigbour or something...who on their death bequeathed their money to Susannah

A bit like our homecare of today...maybe thats how she came in to money.

I have just discovered that when my 4 x grt grandmother Susannah Adelade Rosbrook died in 1898 she left over £8000 to her daughter and husband. A generation before the family had been living 'on the parish' and it does not seem anyone in the family had much money. Susannah (nee Warman) was from a farming family and I know that there had been a considerable will a couple of generations before her. Her children did not seem to make a fortune either - 2 went to build the railroad in Canada and others worked in hotels or pub trade. her husband was a humble mat maker. She was listed as a nurse on one census.. but otherwise I know very little. they lived in Stansted Mountfitchett in Essex. just wondering if anyone can help solve ( or speculate) on this ? When her daughter died half the money had been spent ... Any ideas on how this turn of fortune could have happened? Thank you for any help. Alice
