I'm looking for James Herd born in 1878. Methil, fife. May at this time been married to Jane young.

Hello Rosemary,

Scotland is not releasing the 1911 census until next year I think. It will then be on Scotlandspeople which is not a subscription site but a little like pay per view so I doubt people could afford to do lookups.

Good luck with your Herds :)

Any idea how I can trace his children, he had at least one son as he registered his death.

It looks as though (although not certain as cannot see records) that he married Jane Young in Fife in 1906. Looks as though it is in the Buckhaven registration area of FIfe,

Have you checked the family trees on here Rosemary or other sites such as genforum, ancestry etc?

Do you definitely know he had other children?

Well it is the decendants of James I'm trying to find and I thought the 1911 Census might have given me fresh clues. Thanks a lot Secret red Squirrel, that does sound like the right marrige imformation.

I have found relatives of another brother on here, which was very lucky, but he has no details of james.

Unless someone has this info, with no names I think you may find that the 1911 census may be the best bet with finding at least some of his children.

There may be other evidence out there such as newspaper announcements (if you're lucky) but they may not be online.

(PS the Scottish naming patterns are quite good indications of how they would name their children)
