His records may be on Ancestry if he went on to serve in WW1. Or they may soon appear on FindmyPast when they have completed putting Army discharge papers from 1754 online (they just have those discharged 1900-1913 to do).

Some records of those who served in WW1 are online on Ancestry - many were destroyed. Depending on his age, his may be there. The National Archives site will tell you what records are available before this - but they aren't on line.

I'm trying to trace Harry Albert Lawrence - last known as Private, 2nd Btn Scottish Rifles, stationed on IOW in 1897. Are enlistment or military records available anywhere online?
