Possible Joan, as I do not have the original Bass's mother's maiden name. I'll try the trying to find message board to find out more....

I think the Scottish naming system passes down the mmn as a middle name.

I've had a look at the website you mentioned, but it doesn't say whether that would have been industrial material or smallscale - just that dyer dyed fabric.

Interesting though as one of the spouses was a seamstress.....

Hi Guys

Two of my relatives had the middle name Bass with no clues as to hwo that came to be. They were dyers by trade.

Any clues as to the name and what did dyers do?
