Yes, thanks I realised that.

I spent quite some time registering these sorts of legal docs for an investment management co when clients died. I am not convinced that a lot of people on this site realise that they aren't always going to get a copy of a will when they send off ?

Forgot to say Jan the only time I would send for one is where the index said Administration (with will).

Cheers

That is exactly what I mean, I will just send for the ones where I know for sure there was a will.

If it was me Jan I wouldn't bother sending for it. I've found several Admins but saved all those fivers as I know all i'll get is the Admin on one sheet of paper, nothing about what was left & to who etc.

Yes we did same for my father in law a couple of years ago but we were granted probate not administration

oh well guess ir doesn't really matter I will try and if it comes back with just a one page legal document then I will have to write off a fiver !

My brother and I were both named as executors in her will. I went on my own to the court and was granted Letters of Administration with my brother also being named.

usually this happens if you were not the original executor named on the will ?

maybe I'll take a chance anyway

When my mother died 7 years ago I was granted Letters of Administration even though she DID leave a will.

What I mean is Letters of Admin are granted when there is no will (otherwise it is called probate), it says if there is a will on the register. So if all you get is the copy document , which is one page with the name of the deceased, date and place of death and name and adress of the person granted the admin rights (and the amount they left) it does not seem worth sending for it as most of this info is on Ancestry already?

Maybe I'm not making myself too clear sorry !

I'm not sure as I am still waiting for delivery of my first 3 wills, but I would have thought you would get the Will itself which could give you extra information. Not sure about the application papers though.

Has anyone ordered documents where there has been a Grant of Letters of Administration rather than a Grant of Probate.

was wondering if they send any other documents other than the grant (like the application papers) as I do not imagine it will be worth getting just the grant which won't say much more than is on the listings on Ancestry?

thanks

Jan
