Funeral Directors Records - Kingston upon Thames,

As part of Heritage weekend I visited Frederick W Paine in Kingston, the inside of the building was amazing and is now listed. I was amazed to find they have all the records from 1908, showing many great details such as nearest relative, cost, even weight of person. I hope to return and look for a couple of relatives who died in 1920, they are happy to search for anyone who is too far to visit.

Has anyone else found funeral companies which have similiar records and now wondered if it would be worth contacting some well established funeral directors.

Hi I am interested because my father worked as a undertaker for this firm in Kingston and then in Twickenham we lived over the shop there it was in 1949 until 1955 I am not sure whether they would keep employee records. Do you mean they keep records of all the people they buried?

yes they had all the records of everyone they buried and I should imagine also employees as they seemed to be very keen on preserving as much history as possible. They even do tours for interested parties (a retired member of staff comes in to do that) I am sure if you write to them at 24 London Road, Kingston upon Thames or ring 0208 547 1556 they will be able to help you.

If you need more information please let me know.

Regards,

Lesley

Hi PigletsPal

it would be worth contacting them to see if they have records for that office - in fact I presume the records I saw were for the Kingston branch only but never thought to ask.

If you do find out if that office or any branches have those records could you let us know as I also have relatives that died in that part of Surrey and there may be others reading this topic who would be interested in them.
