I have the birth cert of my great grandfather, Tom Whitbread born in 1867 in West Ham, and his parents are shown as.. Henry and Eliza Whitbread, formerly Buller.

I also have as marriage cert for a Henry Whitbread to an Eliza Buller, in 1875. he is recorded as batchelor, aged 36 and she as a spinster aged 40.

The marriage was some 20 years after the birth of the first child (if this is "my" Henry and Eliza) and the marriage was Stepney, when all the census shows they lived in the Canning Town area......

If this cert is the correct one, Thought....would they have married some 4 miles away from their home so as not to cause a scandle ???

Kathlyn Report 14 Sep 2010 14:56

I have just made contact with someone who seems to be connected to my mothers family, and as it is about a year since these records saw the light of day, I thought I would remind myself about them.

Henry & Eliza Whitbread,..... Henry was born in Aspley Guise, Beds about 1830, and Eliza came from Shottswell, Warwickshire. I have found a marriage for a Henry Whitbread to an Eliza Bullen, but in the wrong place and 20 years too late.BUT I have found a marriage for a Henry Whitbread to an Esther Buller, in Royston in 1856, just a year prior to the first child.

I have found the birth of an Esther Buller, in Shottswell in 1841, and the 1841 census as the daughter of John and Elizabeth Buller but have not found her in the 1851 census

Is this Esther and Eliza the same person and if so why was she recorded as Eliza..

I now have matted brain sindrome!!!
