As for all things French, they are in the departmental archives

However, there are a lot more records coming online via Ancestry and Geneanet so who knows...................

A good place to start research is Cyndislist for France

http://www.cyndislist.com/france.htm

From there you can tap into online and other leads for French research.

Don't forget www.genforum.genealogy.com where you can go to the countries list, click on France, and find message boards (in English) where you can ask questions to people in the know, re: French genealogy stuff.
