Hi Duncan ... in case it helps ..the 'National Library of NZ' (on-line) has an 'Ask a Librarian' service ...they will check their many records including electoral rolls (past & present) & newspaper death notices -for family names.

Thank you both for your replies.

Peter, Ivy Annie is the lady, sorry I should have said that in the first message. You also have the right Mervyn, I didn't know his date of birth, but date of death is right, as is leading Woolston Brass Band.

Quoy, I followed your link, and found the details needed, but I have had an automated reply as the archive office is shut (hopefully temporarily) following earthquake damage.

Thanks again

Duncan

There are two deaths available -

Ivy Lilian Waters b 1/2/1890 died 1973

Ivy Annie Waters b 1/2/1891 died 1983 Most likely as she was in Christchurch - see Mervyn below

Correct one should give you what you want.

Failing that there are three Mervyn Waters deaths (b 1918, 1923 and 1928) - again the correct one should help....almost certainly the one who died in Christchurch (1989) who is Mervyn James b 1923 Fits as he led the Woolston Brass Band

I had a great aunt, Ivy Olley, born in 1890, who emigrated to New Zealand.

I know her married name was Waters, just because I know they had a son Mervyn Waters. But I don't know her husband's christian name, I can't find a marriage record in the UK, but I can't find her on Ancestors on Board either as Ivy Olley or as Ivy Waters. I can't find any record of the marriage in either the UK or New Zealand (where I can only check till 1930). I've googled Mervyn for clues, he was a well known band leader in NZ so he's on plenty of websites - but I can't find any that help.

Can anybody suggest anything that I've missed?

Thanks

Duncan
