Hi,
On a amarriage cert I have a George Foster who was a marine fireman but deceased. The cert is from 1912 and I cant find the death. Does this mean he was a fireman at the docks? Any help with suggestions for finding out what happened to him would be great.
Thanks,
Kim x

Is this him???????????

Kim,

It may be he was a Stoker on a vessel, as sometimes these were called Marine Firemen according to a forum I read.

I think that Ann is right. I have a gg grandfather who on a birth certificate is described as a Steam Ship Stoker and on a later census record he is a Marine Fireman. Basically he had a really tough, exhausting job of shovelling coal all day to keep the steam ship going
