Has anyone any suggestions for finding a family that don't seem to have existed during the 1861 census. Have tried all manner of spellings on all of the different members of the family - but nothing. The head of the family died in 1859 and the oldest child would have been 9 yrs old.
Anyone have any ideas where I should look?

Could they be in one of the 'missing pieces'?

Scroll down to 1861 and they are listed in full.

Thank you Chris, but that site couldn't find them either. I'm just wondering if they slipped the net and didn't do the census that year. Do you know if this would have been possible?

Thank you Maureen, but no as I have them in 1871 still under the same name.

Had another look Chris; it is possible that they are one of the missing pieces, although the actual village is not listed the town next to it is. I think I may give up on this particular search, as I just wanted to check that they were still in the same village.
Many thanks. Susan

They may well turn up somewhere unexpected - only this week I have found some of OH's ancestors - in Blyth, Northumberland censuses in 1871 and 1891. I found them on GR originally, but an Ancestry hint found them in the U.S 1880 census in Cleveland, Ohio - same names & dobs, Irish birth, children same names and ages (only said to be born Cleveland rather than Blyth! He was a miner so obviously went where the work was, but it hadn't occurred to me to search US records.
