tracing a sweet/confectioners shop

Can anyone tell me if there are any online records for tracing shops.

My great grandmother owned a sweet shop in Wolverhampton and I would like to find out more. She died in 1938 and her will is dated three years previous in 1935 and there is no mention as to a shop, but she would have been 72 in 1935. I would think the shop was sold on when she retired (whenever that was 1923-1935ish). I know the shop was local to the family home, as a cousin remembers her mother telling her, but I do not know the street. However, the witness to the will is that of a shopkeeper in Walsall Street which is not too far from the family home. A good place to start. Nothing there now, as you would expect, but if I could just find out more.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Regards
Dee

I can only suggest contacting Wolverhampton library to enquire whether they have copies of the Kellys directories of Staffordshire. Editions were produced every 4 years from 1880.

Good luck

Hi Dee

Try the free site www.historicaldirectories.org

There is a confectioners in 1914 at 104 Stafford Street belonging to R Robinson, listed in the Wolverhampton Red Book, but there are several other directories covering the area that you could look at.

Good luck
