Evening All

Can anyone advise me please? Would it be better to split the Maternal & Paternal side of the families into two main trees or leave them as one big tree?

Personally I would leave it as a single tree but it depends upon how wide your branches are or you wish them to be.

I have two distinct trees:

Tree one comprises my direct ancestors only, parents, grandparents, great grand parents ect. with 8 generations this has a maximum of 255 people including yourself.

Tree Two has the same people but also includes Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and their spouses and children ect.

Depending upon how far you wish to "Extend" your relations this tree can contain an infinite number of individuals.

Hi Jonesey

Thank you for your reply which is appreciated.

That is what was concerning me adding all the branches and twigs and getting myself into a muddle

Thank you again

You are more likely to get into a muddle if you try and maintain numerous trees. I did try it several years ago but now have one single master tree on FTM which has all the research I have ever done. I find it is so much easier with everything in one place.

If you want to share with someone else, then you can create smaller trees with just the branches that are relevant to the other person. Similarly you might want to load a cut down version to sites such as this.
