Bernard,

The limit for the size of attachments is most likely set by your email provider.

Windows Live Mail accessing Hotmail has a limit of 200 attachments up to 50 MB each (9.8 GB total) per email.

There is also the issue of how much the recipient can accept through their email provider, which could be less that yours allows to send.

Thank you Inspector. I did wonder if it was a feature of Windows live mail as it only came about after I changed my computer. The poblem is if I attach a few photos it can't be sent becaus the file is too large, it is driving me up the wall.

Thanks for the explanation

This is, a feature of Windows Live Mail which displays and image attachments in the body of the email. However, it does not affect how recipients of your message will see images displayed. That is dependent on their own PC settings and which email client they happen to use.

It is possible to turn the feature off, on your own pc, but as this involves editing your computers registry, it is not for the feint of heart as it is possible to trash your computer if you get things wrong. If you do not feel confident in what you are doing, then best to leave well alone.

Thanks for repling Kathleen. What I want to do is to stop the attachment going into the main e-mail. I never had this problem until recently.

When the recipient receives the email there should be a small picture icon underneath their address at the start of the message. When they click on this the photo will open in a new window at the correct size.

Sorry - I don't know enough about computers to offer any practical help. We use Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail and I have no problem viewing photos even though they are big in the body of the email.

Please could someone help a silver surfer to overcome a problem?
I am using Windows 7 & Windows live mail. When I attach a photo it looks OK but when I send it, it also inserts it into the body of the e-mail. It is normal size on the attachment but about twice the width of the monitor in the main e-mail. It must drive the recipitants mad.
