Thanks to Kay????, I used the promotion code and obtained the discount.for subscribing to findmypast, but I subscribed via Quidco.com and also received £25.64 cashback as well.

I understand that you can also get a subscription discount via them for ancestry.

Many thanks for the tip!

Hi Pete,

I have subscribed to Ancestry and I think it's worth it just for the family tree builder online where you can attach a whole family to your tree just by clicking on a census record - it practically builds itself!

Hi.
just a thought, check out your local library, both West Yorkshire and East Yorkshire have free access to Ancestry which I use regularly. But I really wish that BMD was pre 1837!!!!!!! good luck M

Findmypast have an offer of £50 off so year subs are £100 instead of £150 only for a few more days.

Enter Promotional code---- PAYG50.....

you would need to look to see if it suits your needs.

Ancestry usually have 2 weeks of free access before they take from your credit or debit card. You could take up the trial as long as you remember to cancel before the 2 weeks are up.

FMP have a 'free 14 day trail' link on its opening page as well, so you could do one, then the other, and make a descison on that basis.

FMP-
* Complete 1841-1901 census collection for England and Wales
* Most complete birth, marriage and death indexes (1837-2006) online
* The largest set of parish records available online, dating from 1538
* Migration records, including passenger lists for 1890-1960
* Extensive military records collection
(World War One, World War Two, armed forces BMDs,
navy records, Waterloo records, and a host of roll calls and lists) *
* Specialist occupational and directory records
* Online help and advice
* Customer support with your account

Note - 1911 and British Army Service Records 1760-1913 are not included in the free trial.

I only have 1911 with them, but a World Wide sub with Ancestry, which suits my needs. But then, I don' t have any Irish or Scottish ancestors!

BUT GR does not actually hold any BMD's or census records

It really does depend on the differences between the extras offered on those site.

I love Ancestry because it has London Marriages and Baptisms -although not available on the basic subscription package

Ancestry has also been useful with the Scottish census up to 1901 but they do not have any images.

I am thinking of subscribing to one of the above. I have asked for help on here in the past and been amazed at peoples knowledge. My family is mostly English based but I have a scottish surname and possible links to Ireland. I have access to 1911 census via GR.

I would greatly appreciate your respected views on the 2 sites.

Thanks in advance

Pete
