john married a lady called joan margaret ,maybe 1955 manchester sorry dont know surname

There is no Scottish census available after 1901 (I think 1911 out next year). You would have to look for births, marriages and deaths on Scotlands People. As far as I know electoral registers (apart from very recent) are only searchable by address, same as England/Wales.

well those census want be released for sometime if ever!!
You could try Scotland's People site r BMD,s

help please.
which scottish census would i look in to find john mcallister born 1925 and his brother louie.mcallister is prob a very common name in scotland but i know they lived in the gorballs? glasgow and thats the only info i have ,so it may be pointless many thanks margaret.
