Copy of a will request

After finding details of a will I wished to purchase on Ancestry Probate Calendars, I filled in the form back in August and sent off to York with £5 fee. Yesterday received a letter from Norwich Probate Sub Registry to say they could find no record of the one I requested. I had given all the correct details as taken from Ancestry.
I phoned the Norwich office to say that the record was in the probate calendar and the chappie disappeared for a while. Came back to the phone and referred me back to York. As the York office is so inundated with requests for will copies they are sending out to regional offices to deal with. I then tried phoning York office but all there is is a recorded message with no opportunity to be put through to someone to speak to. Why are they telling me they can find no record if it shows on the probate calendar list. Could some have been lost?

If it was during the war I could understand that some might not have made it to the offices but this one I requested was for 1934.

Has this happened to anyone else and did it eventually turn up.

Did the entry on Ancestry mention a will or just Letters of Administration? Can you give the details of the name and year f rom Ancestry so we can have a look?

Can't understand why they can't find it. Perhaps it might be easier to write to York. I know they are busy. I waited 6 weeks for three wills which were only delivered last Saturday.

I have just written to York Office. Fingers crossed it will be found but Norwich should be using the same search criteria as York.

Will update if its located.
Thanks for your help.

Lots of people have ordered from York, but in theory you should be able to order from any Probate Office - it doesn't matter where they died.

I would never order from York - even before the Index appeared on Ancestry they were always SO slow. I've recommended to people on here that they order from one of the smaller offices - I always get wills within a week or so.

I received the first wills I have ordered last Saturday. I ordered from York but they were sent (after 6 weeks!) from Birmingham.

However I had ordered from York because it says it is classed as a Sub-Registry rather than a Registry - so I thought it WAS a smaller office!! I guess I was wrong.
