I really dont think it's me but could somebody please check these records & images on Ancestry 1871 census. Starts Emily Bowman b 1865 Yorkshire daughter Wm & Jane. When you click on" view record," this one pops up:-

1871 England Census
about Mary Jane Bowman
Name: Mary Jane Bowman
Age: 6
Estimated birth year: abt 1865
Relation: Niece
Gender: Female
Where born: Lancashire, Durham, England
Civil parish: Hethersgill
Ecclesiastical parish: Carlisle
County/Island: Cumberland
Country: England
Registration district: Longtown
Sub-registration district: Low Longtown

but not only that. the whole page does not agree nor the next one or the next or the next and so on ! How do you let Ancestry know about it?

I click on "view record" Emily Bowman parents Wm & Jane and the information I get is
1871 England Census
about Mary Jane Bowman
Name: Mary Jane Bowman
Age: 6
Estimated birth year: abt 1865

Gender: Female
Where born: Lancashire, Durham, England

I click on "view original image" and it is of Mary Jane Bowman

Only if you go straight to view image on far right of screen, is the correct image shown.

As Moody Blue says you get the right image by not opening the transcription first

you can report the wrong image by clicking on the Report Image Problem on the left hand side of the transcription

Yes, the transcriptions are all out but the images are correct.

It would be a very long task as it is many more than one page and would Ancestry understand from that process , that you only get the correct image by bypassing the transcription?
The report a problem gives 3 categories
missing image
wrong image
unreadable image

none of which really apply.

I wonder if it is a more "general" problem with the 1871 and not just with this record. I am getting the same thing with John Medcraft b1934 Dunstable - William Medcraft's record is coming up and his image if I go to it from the record but the correct image is coming up if I go straight to it.

It has been going on since at least 10am. There is mention of it on the Ancestry Facebook messages.

I did email Ancestry about it and got an automatic reply to the effect that they were getting a lot of emails today.

Funny that as I had exactly the same problem with the 1871 just before lunch. I have reported it as 'wrong image'. Perhaps if enough people post the errors they will realise something is wrong.

The ancestry.com message board has similar complaints for the US 1860 census. That has been happening since yesterday afternoon. The UK census for 1871 was definitely all right late yesterday though.
