Good evening everyone,

Sometime ago a relative sent me a copy of Family Tree Maker 2005 and I only started using it recently.
After entering the details of around 1, 500 family members I've discovered that I must have done "something" to the programme as it is now "READ ONLY"
I can't add or alter anything that I've entered.
Can anyone explain in the simplest computer jargon how I can reverse the "READ ONLY"
I'm operating with Windows 7

Thank you

Pam

Microsoft's advice:

Change a read-only file

Setting a file to read-only helps you to protect the file from accidental deletion and changes to the file's content. If a file is set to read-only, you will not be able to save changes to it unless you turn off the file's read-only status.

1.Find the file you want to edit.

2.Right-click the file, and then click Properties.

3.Click the General tab, clear the Read-only check box, and then click OK.

4.Edit and save your file as needed.

Note
If you do not want to change the read-only status of the file but you still want to make changes to the file, you can save a copy of the file with a different name, and then save changes to the copy.
