If you phone for a discount and get turned down it is worth trying again a few days later and at a different time of day.

I got 6 months basic subscription free when I bought FTM. I phoned and asked if I could pay the extra and have 6 months World Wide, which I haven't had before I have Essentials £107.40. I was told no I could only have the basic subs.

I rang again a few days later and was told yes I could. Mind you I have to ring again to tack it on to my current sub when it expires in January so I haven't actually got it yet.

Phoned Ancestry earlier this week - was offered a 10% discount. I told them that I knew they had been offering 25% discounts to others and was then offered the 25% after a little arm twisting. I was then told I would have to phone back to get the discount as they were having trouble with their Worldwide subscriptions that day.

Phoned this morning and got the Worldwide package (normally £155.40) for £116.65 - I'm a very happy bunny for another year!

Thanks Jonesey - it certainly does pay to be a little cheeky.

My sub expires tomorrow. Just rang Ancestry & the chap immediately offered me 25pc discount on Premium membership.
Felt a bit discouraged when I got the negative response to my e mail, but happy now.
Don´t think they realise that because of time differences etc, it isn´t always easy to phone from abroad.
Now I can afford to buy some credits for FMP.

PS Thanks for the original tip Jonesy. Wouldn´t have thought of it myself.

I phoned as mine was due 18 oct .No discount !!!

Phoned again today to cancel and she said call back after the 18 th we can give you 20 % discount

Doesn't make sense .Why can't they give loyal customers a fair deal . Also why do some people get discount and others none ????

Is it luck of the draw who you find on the other end of the phone that day ????

fed up

Kathy

ps she said if I decide to re join next year she was sure there would be a discount

I´m pretty fed up with Ancestry too.
My sub is due for renewal on 23rd October. have been a member for about 4 years. Sent them an e mail asking if any discounts were available as the cost of renewal was prohibitive.
Got a reply saying they don´t give discounts & anyway can´t deal with subscriptions on line????? but if I phone them they will see what discounts are available.
I find the response less than helpful.

Jonesey has a thread entitled it pays to be cheeky. I'm so glad he has otherwise I would have just coughed up the full amount. I rang earlier this week and was given the 25% discount. Thanks Jonesey.

I'm really ticked off with Ancestry. My sub is with Ancestry U.K. but I am living in Canada. When it became due a couple of months ago I had an offer of a 25% discount from Ancestry.com but would have had to take the world sub to get the U.K. records which are the only ones I am interested in at at the moment. (I can look at the world records at my local library if necessary). I phoned Ancestry and was told they could not honour the discount for Ancestry U.K. I let the sub lapse for a while then re-subscribed. I'm mad at myself for not phoning them again before paying up. This was before I was aware that FMP was offering an automatic discount to their customers.

One of the first rules of maximum profitability:

"Never offer a discount unless asked for one first."

One of my first rules for maximum personal bank balance:

"Always ask for a discount."

It pays to be cheeky.

I have belonged to this site for a few years and just received an automatic reminder of £107.40 for the Premium Subscription, phoned then up said it was too exensive, I was immediately offered same deal for £80.50. Why do they not give an automatic discount on renewals as Find my Past do now. I like their site though and would have been sorry to lose it but if they had not offered a discount I would have left out of principal and cost!!.
