Silly query from a umpteenager

I just wonder how many "finds" have been missed by typing in a christian name when they are asking for a surname.
Hardly a tip, but if you are just in a bit of a hurry when researching, it could be.

Done that several times over the years, although I am otherwise perfect.

Harry, I have done that,

eg FreeBMD asks for surname first but in Ancestry you put surname in 2nd box

just to keep us on our toes!

Me too!!. done that and wondered why no results, Different sites have different formats ie some want surname first and some dont. Very frustrating when looking especially when you know you found em before

embarrassing too when you post no results found when trying to help ,only to see another helper coming up with the goods.!

It's an ill wind! Transposed two letters when searching on a census - there they were - father and three children. Had been searching for them for ages. Since then have always tried the wrong spelling when looking for this branch of the family and have found quite a few of them. The enumerators must have been as daft as me!
