I doubt you can Susan, Adoption wasn't legalised until 1927 I think. Any before then were done on an informal basis.
I suggest you google for info about adoption at that time

Sorry people my laptop keeps freezing!!
Thank you,yes these are the people i was looking for.They were my great grand parents,but no family seems to remember too much about them..
Can anyone tell me how i could find out the birth names of children they adopted,i know my grand mothers but there was two boys later on...

Hi there,could anyone look up a John T Simmons,married to Ellen in 1909,lived around the West Ham area,no children that i know of as the three i know of were adopted with the first being my grandmother in 1913..
Any help would be great thank you :)
