Wow! Thanks Gael! I would never have thought to look in the US! He came to Australia when he was in his 20's, will have to look and see the earliest I can place him here and check the dates. We don't know how/when he got here, either. He did come alone, though. Half of his kids were registered Stuart, the other half registered Stewart, and only the last few years have we all found each other! Pretty sure he was illiterate! LOL. The OS stuff is all new to me, so I will enjoy looking at both recommended. Thanks to you both, so much!

Looking for records for Halifax, NS. James Stewart/Stuart b C1827, father Peter b C1800 (blacksmith), mother Flora Cochrane b C1805. These details came from James' marriage certificate in Aust. Listed birthplace as Halifax, Nova Scotia, BC. I have looked at sites recommended on some of these posts, LDS online, looked at census, (found a potential Peter, but says carpenter). It is before civil regos, so I think I probably need a researcher in Canada to look through church records. Anyone one got a good one they can recommend? It's driving me MAD!!!
Thanks, Wendy
