Ursula Report 16 Oct 2010 19:11

My grandfather, William John Goodwin, was in the army and as my father was born in 1909, in Dover (so my mother said) he may have been stationed there at the time. He may have been in the Welsh Guards, or a Derbyshire or surrounding counties regiment at the time. He was married to Maud (maiden name may have been Griffiths or Walker) and she had a relative living in Pen Coed, Wales, whose name was Violet. Despite long searching I can find no trace of them and would be very grateful for any information anyone may have.

if you want to give your father's name I'm sure someone would look to see if they could find the family on 1911 census

Hi Ursula
Was your Father also William J Goodwin?

Astra

Astra Report 17 Oct 2010 16:52

Received a PM to say that Ursula's father was William John Goodwin.
From tracing Ursula back yesterday I think he married in 1933 in Burton on Trent.

Thank you, all of you! You are so very kind to have done this for me and can't tell you how much it is appreciated. KLindainHerriotCountry: this is fascinating, brilliant result! Now I'll have to dig around and see when Granddad became a Derbyshire Police Constable. If that's possible. Astra is quite right. I've dug out the marriage certificate and my parents were married in 1933 at Mickleover, where the male line of my maternal ancesters lived for centuries, which has made it fairly easy to get back to 1790, where I stuck. But that's pretty respectable so I don't complain.
Again, hearfelt thanks

Ursula

So you haven't been able to track down his birth cert?

Who were the witness for your parents' wedding? Do you know of any siblings?
