Uk registers are open so anyone can search the indexes online either with a subscription to a site like this one or Ancestry or findmypast or for free on Freebmd upto I think 1974.

It is very easy to find siblings after 1911 as mothers maiden name is shown. These references can then be used to order the birth or marriage certificate of any living person over 50 years old and can be posted online without reprisal. All this can be done without a persons knowledge. Anyone under 50 years old the full date of birth is required

For me this is scary and for anyone in the UK who agrees should write to their MP to ask for a review of the Public Records Act 1950(amended)

Just to test the above theory, I googled my name and DOB and got several hits (none of them for me) with trees with living people on, including some quite recent births.

You really do have to be careful what you post. All the posts on here appear when you google.

I watched Heirhunters last week.
They started on a case at 7am and at 8.45 am they were knocking on a heirs door.
So anyone can be traced these days.
Quite an eye opener.

Could be that somebody else has your father on a public tree on another site.

You could try Googling your father's name and DOB and see what comes up.

that is the main reason I never put any living people or info about them on a public tree, even GR. They are only on my own personal computer

Oh!
Are you sure that Genes is involved?

Thank you very much, it still does not answer the question as to how a complete stranger can come up to my father this morning and tell him his name how many siblings he had and and the year he was married
