1911 ADVICE

Can anybody advise me regarding accessing 1911 Census please. As I understand it, it is only available from 'Findmypast' but when I google 1911 census, Ancestry & GR (both of whom I transcribe to) come up, amongst many others.

I have tried freebie looks on both my grandmothers with no luck on either but strangely, I did find the illigitimate son of one of them (I think).

Thanks for any advice offered.

Ancestry doesnt have the 1911 census. Genes does if you have the Platinum membership but its only the transcripts, you cant view the actual census sheets .I love seeing the actual sheets cos you see the ancestors actual writing plus additional info like how many children born to the marriage and how many still surviving to 1911

Thanks for that K. I will have a look tomorrow, 'He who goes out to work to support me' has come earlier than expected, so I suppose I had better get his dinner.

It is very kind of you (and others) to offer to find my grannies and I would really appreciate it. If it is alright, I will do this tomorrow, I have full details of them both but I need to set out the details properly so they are easy to understand.

Thanks very much for replying......................Pat

P.S. I never understand these boards after many years.

I always use the 1911 "official" site, the one that was set up first before findmypast started carrying the 1911

www.1911census.co.uk

you can search for free, and then buy credits to look at the actual transcript and census image ..... 60 credits cost £6.95. A transcript costs 10 credits, an image 30 credits

OR you can ask someone to do the lookup for you

EDIT ........ just had to correct the web address!

I have the original web address in my Favourites, have never signed out, and so just go straight to the site. BUT I thought I had better try it to see if it still worked! It didn't, so had to google, and the one above is now the correct address!
