Can anyone tell me why the name Butt was added to the family name of Poole? They started off as Poole, then a middle name of Butt was inserted and then the Butt seem to become the surname. Quite a few entries for Gloucestershire.

I'm especially interested in James Poole Butt who died probably Cheltenham between 1828 - 1837, husband to Judith Butt, father to Henry & James born Newent, & Ellen & Ann born Cheltenham.
