Oh that is interesting, I saw the Travel Lodge it look like it was in another road not Drury Lane. Thanks for that, next time I am in London I will have another look. I'm pretty sure that no 12 does not exist anymore, maybe the Travel Lodge now stands where my Great Grandfather's bakers shop once stood. I will have to google Drury Lane and look at the streetview.

Many thanks again, Sylvia

Hi, I wonder if anybody can help me or point me the right direction.

I went to see a show at Aldwych Theatre last Saturday near Drury Lane and I thought while I was in London I would take the opportunity to look up some address of my ancestors that was on the 1881 and 1891 census. These ancestors were bakers and I believe they had a couple shops in London. The first was 15 Exeter Street near the Theatre which I found straight away. The shop is still there, now a coffee shop, and it has three floors above it were my ancestors lived and possible had the baker shop below. The second was in Drury Lane (number 12) so I went round to find it. If anybody has been to Drury Lane before you will know that the numbers of the shops/houses is not straight forward. It starts off with even numbers on one side and odd numbers on the other side, but then they changes and the numbers seem to get mixed up. I managed to find number 14 & 16, one of them being a sweet shop, and I pop in to ask where number 12 was and he had no idea.

I think my question is – does anybody have an old map of Drury Lane, possibly late nineteen hundred, where it shows where number 12 Drury Lane might be. I guess like most place my ancestors shop has long been knock down and replace by flats but it would be lovely to know at least what part of Drury Lane he had a shop.

Many thanks for any help.

Sylvia
