My mother told me that her uncle was the Bishop of Durban, South Africa in the 1960s, how do I go about checking this please.

Hi, His name was Joseph Louis Green and he was born in London in 1892.

Hi, you can usually google for bishops but nothing is showing for him, neither is he on the Anglican clergy data base site. There are a couple of South African Diocesan websites you can google and maybe ask on there.

To be honest though, as he was born in 1892, he would have been 70 in the mid 1960's which is possibly a little old to be appointed a bishop. Anglican clergy have to retire by the age of 70.

Have you any idea where your mother got this info from? He may have been a minister in a non-conformist church perhaps?
