Hi Joan & Wellybobs, (great name by the way.)

thanks for both your comments.

I actually didn't know there was an inquest untill I got his death certificate. The report in the paper does give some info but it's not a lot.

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and comments, they have been very useful. I will be following it up on Monday. So finger's crossed.

Regards and thanks to you all again,

Lou

Hi LL
I too have been searching for inquest reports, I tried the newspaper route and got nowhere, so I rang the Lancashire Library (The death was in Lancashire) and they very helpfully searched for me but could find nothing, and they confirmed what has already been said, the papers were personal to the coroner and when he retired, finished work, then generally the papers were destroyed. I tried the national Archive too and got nothing so for the time being have given up that avenue of search.
Mind you, at the moment everything I try to find for anyone on my tree ends up with a brick wall, but I will keep ploughing on. good luck.

Hi Jean,

Thanks for that. I will contact them on Monday and keep my finger's crossed. Although by the sounds of it I would be extremely lucky to find anything. But at least I will have given it another shot.

Thanks again, Regards, Lou

Just seen your message re date of death, as it was reasonably recent even if hasn't been destroyed there may be a closure on it as I said best get in touch with the records office

Your best bet is to ask at the records office in the area he died but as previously said it is very rare for any to be still surving, I count myself very lucky to have found my grt grandfathers coroners report from 1898 but another one for another relative in 1915 has been destroyed so its a case of "pot luck"

Hi Joan,

Thanks very much for the info. The year was 1965 Southgate, London.

For future reference, does that mean if the Coroner's report survives I will find them at the Nat Archives?

thanks again for your comments, they were very interesting and helpful.

Regards, Lou

I have a newpaper cutting of my grandfather's inquest. It's a very short piece. Someone on this site found their ancestors inquest on at the National Archives. Can anyone tell me if there would be more detail in the offical inquest document rather than that in the newpaper cutting. And if so how can I obtain a copy as I've tried before and only managed the newspaper cutting.

I've taken a look at the Nat Archives online but keep getting lost on the site.

Thanks in advance Lou
