Help - Looking for marriage on Ancestry

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Ann Report 31 Oct 2010 00:29

I need a pair of young eyes to help me find this marriage, I have been wading through the Marriage Index all day and have searched all surname possibilities etc.
Thomas Addison b. 1828 Sherburn Durham and
Alice Pattison b. 1837 Netherton Northumberland

In the 1861 Cens Alice is still single and in the 1871 Cens she is married to Thomas Addison in Durham. I have search the Durham Records online as well with no success.
Would be grateful of some help

well, the marriage doesn't show up on freedmb.org.uk either

BUT www.freebmd.org.uk is MUCH easier to use than the Index on this site!

you can search on both names, or on one, or on one surname and one forename

and it is free

please do try using that rather than this site!

Could she have been married before???

That's usually the reason behind being unable to find a marriage. Either that, or they didn't get married at all!!

Their daughter Frances was born in East Raunton, Yorkshire, so possibly the marriage was there, also? (But still nothing showing on free bmd)

The IGI website has just gone down, so I can't check where p000771 and m000771 were extracted from - my guess is the OPRs, not the BTs.
Anyways, it's worth looking up Addison with those 2 batch #s - I think they only extracted thru 1812.

These BTs are from:

Hello Sylvia Thanks for that tip, I've never used free BMD as I have always had as Ancestry Sub. I also have been through all the censuses and have always found Alice right back to 1841. However Thomas is missing on the 1861.

If Alice did get married before it would have to have been very quick, as she is single in 1861 and then in 1868 she is married with her 1st child Frances Ann, on the Birth Cert. it says Mother Alice Addison formerly Pattison.
Thanks for your help

Hello Patricia

I have also searched other regions including Yorkshire, I have spent hours searching and re-searching because it really bugs me not being able to find them. If they were distant rellies I wouldnt bother but they are part of the main tree.

Thanks for trying

My grandmothers first husband died in a works accident. She had only been married 2 years so its possible

My other grandmother is on the census as a nursechild in 1891 and a lodger with the same family in 1901 Her birth cert has her with married parents?. No sign of parents on the census or their marriage.
