Just had reminder from ancestry regarding renewal told me rate for Premium is now £107, I am sure this is a lot higher than last year - any suggestions?

Thats about right . they brought the premium subs in when they were adding new info like the LMA parish Records.
Have seen threads where people have rung them and said too dear and got offered a discount. Worth a try.

One can get discount if going through quidco first.

Thanks for your advice, my husband posted this thread for me (he pays my Ancestry subscription) but he failed to acknowledge your replies, apologies for his bad manners.

Hi Patricia,

I mentioned in a thread a couple of weeks ago that I phoned Ancestry said £107.50 was too expensive and mentioned cancelling they immediately offered me the same deal for £80.50.

Get your husband to phone and should get the same deal.

No problem :-)

You're welcome.

I hadn't thought of telephoning ancestry. We went through quidco for 30% discount.

Also discount through national trust site didn't ask for N.T membership details from me.

My Ancestry sub ran out recently after a free 6 months which I got with Family Tree Maker. I had to give them my credit card details to activate it originally. I didn't remember when it was going to finish and they just cancelled it without telling me they were going to, or offering me a renewal. Is this normal for them?

Hi Everyone,
I've just been on Quidco and they are offering 30% off Find My Past and 25% off GenesReunited, BUT where has Ancestry gone???!!!
That was a good deal, I hope it has not finished, my renewal on Ancestry is up soon.
Regards,
Susan

My apologies, it might have been another cash back site and may have been 25% or 30%.

You're right Joy I got my cashback through quidco just recently so it's still going but I will have a quick check....

Oh no...It looks as if they don't have Ancestry on there now!
I see my cashback of £15.96 was just paid Nov 1st from Ancestry so it must have been recently removed...what a shame?

Have just renewed with Ancestry, I phoned like Jonesey suggested and was told she knew nothing about discounts, and that they did not give them. I then said I knew they had given 25% to other people, she put me on hold and came back with discount, but stated very firmly that this would be a one off only. If you phone you have to be persistant, they really do try to put you off.

Well done Carol. As you say persistence pays. For anyone else reading this thread who fancy ringing Ancestry just a reminder that Find My Past automatically gives its existing subscribers 20% discount upon renewal. If you are trying to get a discount from Ancestry it would not be a bad idea to mention that fact if you counter any resistance.

Thanks for all your help and advice, I will ask for a discount and I will let you know how I get on. I had a look at findmypast and they do a pretty good deal which includes 1911 census, they also guarantee annual discounts, so maybe I will mention that!

Sorry I didn't get back sooner but I have just popped on for five minutes before I do dinner, I didn't realize so many more of you had posted, otherwise I would have replied sooner. I will get back when I have more news.

Cheers......Pat
