Looking for help in tracing my wife's siblings.

She was born in 1959 in Bournemouth as Stephanie Louise Butler, her mother was Marie Anapher Butler, born 1919 and died 1967. She was adopted at two weeks old (a private adoption) and has always beleived she had one older sister. We have established so far she in fact has 5 siblings sharing the same mother but we want help in finding out more details.

Can anyone suggest any free websites that are worthwhile using. Thanks,

What sort of details do you want ...as these siblings are probably still alive but if you have their names you can find out if they have married ..but you may find you can get two weeks free on Ancestry.co.uk...which is good

or 192.com will or MAY give you addresses for them

If you can get to a library, you could use their subsription to Ancestry. Then you can search for marriages upto 2005. You may need to book a computer to use.

The only way for sure to decide if the records you find are correct, is to purchase the birth or marriage certificates.

As Kemp has said, recent ER's are on 192.com, but you can do a free search. Ginny on Trying to find, is currently offering look ups of the details.

it is sometimes possible to cross reference with thephonebook, BT's on line telephone directory.

If you do manage to find the up to date address of your wife's siblings, it would be best to write a neutral letter first; however important it is for your wife, they may not know about her existance and it could be quite a shock.

Wishing you all the best luck in the world.

I cannot see a birth in that name, not with the middle name anyway.
(Marie Anapher Butler)
was Butler her maiden name?

Cliff, not sure if you have any details, but her name was Marie A Brooks and she married April 1/4 a John V. Butler in 1942 Basingstoke first child Carol A. Butler born 1942 Hampshire. They then obviously moved to Bournemouth area where there are a possible 4 more births. Looked for marriages of children but as Butler is a common name, none of which showed up in Bournemouth area cannot trace.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, Carol you have the right person as far as we have found out. My wife knows of an older sister who may have been adopted at the same time but it was a shock tp find there were five siblings.
