Deleting people from the tree

How can I delete a person - unless I'm being very thick it seems to be impossible.
I need to delete the Smith's in my family tree - I'm receiving a ludicrous amount of hot matches which, apart from the name and birth year, have absolutely no chance of a connection eg. my ancestor was born in Middx and yet the so-called hot matches flag up individuals born all over the country and some the world.

Why don't you do what I do and just ignore hot matches? I think they're absolutely useless.

However if you really want to delete your Smiths I think you have to work from the bottom up. I don't think GR allows you to delete someone who has descendants.

No need to delete.Alter the spelling.
This works; Smith*

If the person you want to delete has got descendants then you will have to delete them all from the most recent one back to the person you want to delete.

Hot Matches are not always useless, although to need to understand and recognise their limitations, but I could see that there might be a problem with a name like Smith.

In addition to deleting up from the bottom, you can also delete down from the top.

Just thinking about the Smith* idea?

Surely if everyone did this then we would be back to square one?
