HELP ~> DATING VICTORIAN PHOTOGRAPHS (WEBSITES)

Hi All :-)

Lucky me - I have recently received from a relative a few lovely old (Victorian Period) photographs & would dearly like them dated to the nearest possible year they were taken. Curiosity has gotten the better of me as I have spent time attempting to figure them out, whilst I have thoughts as to when they may have been taken I would like the opinions of others as I am not an expert in the field of photography or fashions of the day.

I would like the opinions of those who have a fair knowledge in the field of photography (dating the photographs) & fashion (fashion knowledge) & not just ‘guessing’ like this little black duck has been attempting to do.

Does anyone here in wonderful ‘Genesreunited Land’ have any suggestions as to where I could post on (Website/s) these photographs to get sound advice with clear feedback?

BIG ‘THANKS’ in Advance.

Yours - Steve ;-)

NOTE: The photographs I have are not the originals – they are ‘JPEG copies’ – I also have copies of the reverse sides to the respective images.

You could try Rootschat.

They have a photo dating and restoration board, there are some very good people on there and it's free to join.

(Big Ta) 'Thank you' Christine - I will have a really good look at the 'rootschat' site & see what they have to offer ;-)

Would love to hear more suggestions for websites that have photograph dating.

Yours - Steve.

Here is another useful site, where you can compare your own photos against the ones listed.

Hi Steve,
familytreeresearchers.co.uk do a photograph dating service and also a restoration service. I have not used them yet though so I've no idea how good they may or may not be.
