Hi Steven,

Thanks for your PM - just off to read it now, the website looks interesting, thanks again!

Desperate to know if the headstone is still there, although reading the ground has been redeveloped is not impressive at all!

Kindest regards

TF

Hi TF,

My gggg grandfather Thomas Selkirk was a priest for the St John Church from 1821 until his death in 1834. He was buried in the St John Church.

I have been contacted with Trevor. I think he is from Bury Council. So I am waiting for him to find out if a headstone of Thomas Selkirk still stands or not.

St John was built in 1779 and demolished in 1964. Now a memorial garden where the original Church stood and all the surrounding area has been a redevelopment site. This has now been completed and the memorial garden has been renovated, and additional gravestones that surrounded the boundary walls have been re-laid.

He is waiting for clearance to photograph the gravestones and he will let me know about it.

Do you want his email address?

Cheers, Steven.

InspectorGreenPen,

Thanks for you info, I have been been a copy of a grave inscription dating back to a headstone from 1810, so hoping it is still there.....

Yes it appears that the two parishes were merged, and a new church opened in the 1960's

There is a bit of info here - but nothing about a graveyard.

There is, however, a contact form for you to send an email message, which may be of help to you.

Hi,
I have many ancestors buried at St John, Bury. Can someone that knows this area please clarify for me that:

St John is now linked to St Marks? (I think, can't seem to find any further info apart from this and no photos of a very old church)

Is the graveyard still there please?

Many thanks
