Thanks Von. Just thought it was unique to my lot. Well just a theory of why he was called that when his siblings had more common names.

There are several people with the first name of Alderman on the 1881 census so presumably it was a given name like any other.

I would like to know if there is a list of Freemen/Aldermen for London between 1900-1920.
The reason being that my uncle had an unusual middle name of Alderman which got me thinking that there could possibly be a reason why he was called this.
Does anyone else have a member of the family with a name like this and is it more common than I first thought?
Many Thanks
Donna
