If there was an inquest then the coroner would show on the death cert as the informant this is for England and Wales certs

Keep an eye out for an RCE note in the margin of the registration.
It might well be that the initial d.rego was accepted when the body was recovered, and a subsequent coroner's inquest (or the Scottish equivalent) ordered a change which would be recorded in the Register of Corrected Entries - there's more abt this register on the SP website.

Hi Meg
Regarding the Death cert from Scotland People--I think you should be able to view and download it

you can view
births after 100 years
marriages after 75 years
Deaths after 50 years

(I think I have those the right way round--but someone will say If I have it wrong )

Hope this helps

Thanks Annie. The boat was a steam trawler called Castleton, there is lots of information on the Internet about what happened to the boat. I'm hoping to go to Grimsby library this week to see what was actually in the newspaper.

My G Grandfather was a fisherman whose boat was sunk in 1940 around the Orkney Islands. His body was supposedly recovered and is buried in Flotta.

Would a death certificate say who identified his body?

His wife was very adamant it wasn't him as she was told this body had tatoos, and he never, and also why wouldn't they have sent his body home to be buried?

Also would I just view the certificate on Scotlands People or would I have to order it?

Any advice please.

Meg
