A few month ago a friend asked if i would have a go at her Dads family tree for him, but made it clear from the start he wouldnt be able to buy certs ect because he was not to well off .
The only info he had was his fathers birth certificate.......
William Taylor born 8 November 1907
80, Church Drive, Shirebrooke Mansfield.
Father George Taylor .. a miner
Mother Mary nee Tether.
So i thought i'd give it a go.
I can not find any marriage for these two, and the only likely one on the 1911c for William is at the home of ...
George Cartwright a single 48 year old Colliery top man
Mary Taylor 46 is listed as house keeper
Annie Taylor 11 year old daughter
William Taylor 4 year old son
Mary is listed as married for 26yrs
Goind back to earlier c Mary can be found with a William Taylor born Sheffield but i have'nt been able to fing a marriage for these either.
In 1911 this William is in The Chesterffield Union Workhouse.
I was wondering if maybe George Cartwright may have been his father.
I suppose the best way forward is to get the birth cert of Annie and see if her father is William just to be sure it's the right family, but i thought i'd just ask and see if anybody can come up with any ideas first .
Regards Sue

Why thanks! Just a hint - try Freesearch (which is much better to search as we all know) and put "shirebrook" in residential place.
Image says married 15 years, 4 children, 3 still living.

Sue - re. putting census details onto here. The knack is to copy & paste, it's a brilliant way to copy info quickly and if I can do it anyone can. tell me if you need tips on how to do it.
