This was on Radio 2 today......The DJ interveiwed the daughter and she told a tale same as the newspaper advert.

A couple of minutes later a man rang in and said it sounded like his Uncle Ron Kendall who died 15 years ago...he said he was in the tank regiment and served in the Middle East and was stationed at or near Catterick, had been married and had one child...the caller didn`t say what year he had married.

The womans daughter did stipulate that they hadn`t really been in a relationship as they only knew each other for 10 weeks before he went away...but he did write all those letters to her...

Looks like he married 1936 sept qt and his child was born 1936 dec qt
Shotgun no doubt

Its interesting though, that the story says she asked him to dance. Makes you wonder if he might not have been tempted if that hadnt have happened and was flattered.

Pity she has obviously being holding a candle for him all these years and pity her husband if he had found out

Anyone see this article about a "sweetheart" from the War:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1328751/Pensioner-makes-deathbed-appeal-lost-teenage-sweetheart-went-war.html

A quick check on Ancestry shows that Ron was a naughty boy and had a family back home.

How irresponsible of the Daily Mail to publish that story. Imagine his descendants discovering their relative's indescretions in a national newspaper.
