hi i use the lancashire online parish records site and wondered if there is something similar to this to cover yorkshire ?

The OPC Project only covers a handful of counties at the moment, not Yorkshire, unfortunately

Hi, what you might try is to see if there is a family history society in the town where your relative was living/born, we have found these to be very helpful in the town in Yorkshire where we are researching. Try googling FHS (in full of course) of (name of town) and see what you get.
