Hi Irene.Regarding your enquiries into your great grandmother in Fenton area of Stoke-on-Trent in 1908:if you can give me a road or street name and possible surnames to look for(besides Dean),I will gladly check the electoral registers where they have the information on these records for you?You did mention an occupation of Paintress, which is one of the many jobs in the Pottery Industries until the 1980's.It might just be that the souvenir of the Dean family that you have, could have been done as a favour? What I'm trying to say is-if I were working on a pot-bank(pottery works),and someone close asked me if I knew of someone who would do a good job for me as a wedding gift,in putting the finishing touches to a piece of pottery, whether for money or as a favour,I would take that piece of pottery ware to a Paintress at my pot-bank and ask if she would help me out.Do you see what I am trying to say?If you widen your search a little to include all potters, you may find what you are looking for?If I can help further, please get in touch, and,as I said,I will willingly check the local Stoke records for you.Best wishes,Keith.

thanks for that reminder, I had been hoping to find my gt.grandmother in 1908 and who was living in that household - but as you advise women weren't voting then.

No sorry, they are not, only in person at the main Library for the area concerned.

What exactly are you hoping to find, and for which periods?

Universal suffrage didn't happen until after WW1 and even then women under 30 had to wait a further ten years to gain equality with their menfolk. so prior to that, only a limited no of males were eligible to vote.

No Rolls were compiled during WWII either.

Is there any way of looking up electoral rolls from the 1900's
online?
