Janette Report 21 Nov 2010 12:35

Hi, for some time now I have been struggling tracing one line of my family tree. Ada Lawton born 1882 Congleton.

She appears on the 1911 Census living with her husband Walter Dale (whom she married in 1903) in Conlgeton; this being the only time I can be really sure of her

An Ada Lawton born in 1882 then appears on the 1901 census living with her family in Congleton.

However, a different family then appears on the 1891 census though Ada remains the right age.

I am really stuck and am thinking I need to buy Ada's marriage certificate to continue any further however any input would be really appreciated.

Thanks again

Janette :)

The marriage cert really is you best bet, Janette. With her father's name and occupation you will hopefully be able to confirm any census findings.

I have looked at the census returns, to me these are obviously 2 different families. If Ada is important to your tree then you need a marriage certificate

Hi,

Just checked Walters WW1 papers.

Witnesses to their marriage were; C. Lawton and A Dale

They were married 29.11.03

Hopefully the marriage certificate will give their first names.

I have found the rest of the family in 1891 and Ada is not there.
Seems strange that she is the last entry in 1901.

Hi Janette,

yes he has WW1 papers and they are on Ancestry. If you don't have access you can take out a 14 day free trial.

It names Ada as wife and then there are 2 sons.... 1 name crossed through and 1 daughter.

EDIT>>> just checked it's 3 sons no daughter, and no name crossed through.... getting confused myself, sorry.
