at least Irene did not say Winter Holiday Festive Day lol!

You have no need to apologise, Irene

shame on Patricia!

and yes, it should have been by pm, if at all ...... but in fact was completely unnecessary in any way, shape or form

and completely unnecessary to add the little bit about the soldiers

...................... OUR soldiers, ie the Canadians, are not fighting and dying for Christ in Afghanistan, they're fighting for a better life for a downtrodden public, most of whom just incidentally are not Christians.

OUR soldiers are not fighting in a Crusade, thank heaven.

And I am sure that the British soldiers, and those from all other nations, are the same.

Merry Xmas everyone

Dont feel you need to apologise Irene for the rude intrusion of throw away comments on your thread.

Perhaps being a SECRLYETARY? one would need qualifying spelling skills ,wouldnt you say?

Rambling Report 27 Nov 2010 09:58

Irene's post is certainly in the spirit of Christmas / Xmas , whatever the spelling :)

http://www.crivoice.org/symbols/xmasorigin.html

For those who would like to see an explanation for the use of the X for Xmas ( properly still pronounced Christmas) , over the centuries :))

have a happy one :)

I wouldn't have put it quite as strong as that, but yes, quite right. Happy Xmas to all.

Sorry if I offended anyone.
Christmas is Christmas and xmas is just
quicker to type but the meaning is the same
to me.
Nit picking comes to mind.
Happy Christmas Everyone - if not a little early.

Hi Irene,
I have just been reading back through your posting and realised you may think I don't think your tip is good --but I do, I think its GREAT. and thank you for it. (I have also put a link to your thread on Joneseys tip)

Patricia
I had an Aunt who WAS a religious fanatic --she always put Merry xmas on both her cards and gifts to us !!! (this was in the 1950's and she also gave us a small gift on New Years Day from Mummy xmas!!!)
I think, if you had anything to say to Irene then you could have done this off the board and sent her a PM. and not tried to belittle her,in my opinion, what you have put, is uncalled for and Irrelevant to Irenes post of a great tip.

Best wishes
Barbara xx

Patricia, you might be interested to know that writing Xmas is a very old practice as the X represents the cross. On old documents it is used extensively, also Xchurch, etc.

Irene, would you like to be referred to as Irene X, because that is what you are doing by writing xmas. I am not a religious fanatic by any stretch of the imagination, I am probably one of the worse sinners in th world but I do respect the son of God who gave his life for us. (Just as our forces do).

Sorry but when I was a secrlyetary/PA for a very high profile man (also doing his personal stuff ie Round Table etc) I refused to type xmas it is CHRISTMAS. Christ isn't difficult to type, it i only five extra letters.

Wishing a very Happy Christmas to all of you.........................P

TerryFromGloucester Report 26 Nov 2010 12:09

I bought FTM 2011 and phoned Ancestry to ask for the discount off my renewal, or get the renewal date extended, and was told I had to cancel my membership (I normally renew automatically) and phone them on the day it expires to get the discount (and I assume start a new membership)

I subsequently had an e-mail saying they were sorry I was cancelling my membership so I responded (on 17th Nov) to say I wasn't, I just wanted the promised discount for buying FTM 2011.

I am still awaiting a reply. Perhaps the person I spoke to at Ancestry (an American lady) gave me some incorrect information. I will have to phone them again.

Irene Report 25 Nov 2010 11:52

I agree Tony that it is a good deal. My last membership was from
Tesco's offer of Family Tree program with a free membership.
You still have to give your credit card details but can still cancel just before the membership ends. Regards Irene

My subscrition also expires mid December and I have gone for same deal on Amazon.

I don't know how they can offer this at £32-97 with 6 months Premium membership chucked in but it's a cracking deal.

This is the third time I am doing this. Does not really make sense when you can buy this every 6 months with the free membership and get the equivalent of 12 months subscription plus new software for about £66 as opposed to renewing on Ancestry at £107.

Just remember that you may need to phone them after registering as it does not always add it to the start of your expiry date.

My Ancestry membership is due to expire on xmas day and I just got
a reminder to renew my membership would cost me £107. I have just
been on Amazon and ordered "Family Tree Maker 2011 Platinum for
£32.97 and have got free 6 month membership to Ancestry. So thats one
way of saving a few pounds. I am well pleased. Irene
