Finding a death in hong kong

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

My grandfathers uncle died in Hong Kong on 3 September 1871 according to his service record from the PRO. He was an only mate in the merchant navy at the time and had enlisted as Stephen Butcher Chapman and his alias "John Mays". His death is not in the "Deaths at Sea" records under either name

There was a typhoon in Hong Kong the day before and i would like to see if this contributed to his death

Any ideas?

many thanks Rosie Chapman

How interesting! Definitely not the same Stephen Butcher Chapman, who had died by then, and who was born in 1840 in Snettisham, Norfolk. But very interesting because we have a photograph of Stephen's brother Marriott taken in Boston, Lincolnshire.!!!

I have researched this family in great depth over about 25 years, and have not come across this Stephen Chapman in Boston - but I will definitely have a look into his family to see if there is some distant connection. Would be thrilled to find a family member who I had "missed"!

Still doesnt solve my problem though :-)

Thanks for taking the time - Rosie
