What is the difference between Parish Registers and Parish Records then? I had assumed they were the same thing.

If you search http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/ there is a John Burt of about the right time and place in the search results. There could be brothers and sisters on there too.

And sometimes you will not find your family neatly recorded in parish registers.

Then you have to look at parish records and further afield.

Parish records, if they survive, will be in the relevant record office and if not then I am sure they will point you in the right direction. Some may be at The National Archives.

also look for

Online Parish Clerks .... not all counties are included as yet, some are excellent, eg Lancashire

go to www.onlineparishclerks.org.uk/ to see which counties are included

also check the NEW family search (Mormon) site www.beta.familysearch.org

See if you can find a Family History Society for the area of inteest ......... there may be a fee for joining and / or doing searches for you. Google the name of your town or county + Family History Society to find these

I would welcome any advice on how to go back beyond 1841 census to find family members.
